Saying goodbye to January always feels like a step toward spring. The dawn is coming earlier, and today, in my garden, the squirrels were chasing each other madly around the trunks of the cedars. While there's still frost on the rooftops in the morning, my mind is drifting toward planting time. As a salute to the hope that seeds represent, I've put together a small collection of artworks that demonstrates my perennial love for seed packages and gardening itself (click on the image for a larger view):
Seed Packets: Designing on a Small Scale
November 23, 2025
Did I need a deep plunge into a new blog site, right when such a time-consuming challenge really didn’t fit into my crowded calendar? The answer, no surprise, is “no” but at least I was able to navigate the mind-befuddling process of transferring the data from my old platform to this new, AI-enhanced version of good ol’ WordPress. My previous experience of working on good ol’ WordPress wasn’t stellar, so I’m hoping to improve my relationship with it asap. So far I have been able to upload my seasonally appropriate squash painting! But now, HOW do I get rid of “Hello World!” which was placed there by Good Ol. I’m not sure about this, but I think Good Ol’s default tips will stay on this, my First Post until I figure out how to discretely remove them without being told “This is not a good idea.” At least I got my squash up on this new site for your viewing pleasure! Happy Thanksgiving :-).

jocelyn: very beautiful and timely. i’ve been working lots recently with a 1964 edition of an Atlas liecivych rastlin, which is written entirely in a foreign language that i do not read but filled with beautiful illustrations of plants of all kinds. i love your seed packets and especially your newest creation. you have captured the beauty of the organic form with much grace. all the best as spring draws near, stephanie

Jocelyn, this morning a robin was singing out heartily at 6 am–the natural world is waking up to the increasing light and warming air. Your seed packets make me anxious to go out and prepare my garden for planting! Beautiful designs!

Jocelyn,
How nice to see those beautiful seed packets-Here in northern Minnesota we are months away from planting. It was -22 actual temp again this morning! At this point in the winter- it’s not pretty anymore- thanks for showing what we can look forward to! TerryLikeLike

How well I remember and cherish that delicately beautiful snapdragon packet, Jocelyn. All the packets are just beautiful and do more than justice to the miracles inside. Hurry Spring! xox
