  • Cancelled: Return of the Teaching Duo: Jocelyn + Husband Rick Asher!

    November 23, 2025

Did I need a deep plunge into a new blog site, right when such a time-consuming challenge really didn’t fit into my crowded calendar? The answer, no surprise, is “no” but at least I was able to navigate the mind-befuddling process of transferring the data from my old platform to this new, AI-enhanced version of good ol’ WordPress. My previous experience of working on good ol’ WordPress wasn’t stellar, so I’m hoping to improve my relationship with it asap. So far I have been able to upload my seasonally appropriate squash painting! But now, HOW do I get rid of “Hello World!” which was placed there by Good Ol. I’m not sure about this, but I think Good Ol’s default tips will stay on this, my First Post until I figure out how to discretely remove them without being told “This is not a good idea.” At least I got my squash up on this new site for your viewing pleasure! Happy Thanksgiving :-).

Begun in September, 2018, three interpretive display panels designed by me and illustrated with my watercolors plus photography by Boni Biery, are now in place. Hillwood Park in Shoreline, Washington (my home town) is the location of an ephemeral creek running through a broad wetland meadow. In years gone by, this meadow was an orchard.…

Close-up of  a couple of repairs. Autumn has officially arrived, and the summer morning reveries back to my childhood years have moved on to current thoughts and goals. Last night I finished another of the items on my summer To Do List: restore the rattan loveseat here in the greenhouse. This seems like a good…

I took the plunge yesterday and started learning to do animation–applied to a map. Why? My daughter and her business partner are offering a musicians’ showcase concert in Manhattan on January 7. This is for the benefit of attendees of the international APAP conference who are looking for talented bands and groups to hire. Here’s…

The Drawing Group always looks forward to the warming days of summer when we meet up on a driftwood log or picnic table near the beach in Edmonds, WA. This year we perched along the walkway by the marina there, our thermoses and treats spread out within reach as we sketched what was before us.…

I sat on a bench just like this one as I sketched this English-style teak bench at Whitman College in Walla Walla last weekend. Maybe it was the act of sitting on a bench, relaxed, feeling the spring sunshine warming my shoulders that made me realize that I am working on my last commission as…

During the past couple of weeks I have been doing a lot of experimenting with different pens and writing fluids. FYI, this is part of a big map project I'm working on. Over the years, I've done a lot of artwork for my daughter's bands. When the gifted trumpet and cornet player Mike Davis from her current band (Emily Asher's Garden Party) decided to lead a traditional jazz band of his own, the need for a "period style" logo came up. Mike Davis' The New Wonders, also…

In spite of the holiday to-do lists we all entertained at the time, the drawing group came together in my sunny dining room for drawing practice just a few days before Christmas. A very few toys from my childhood have survived the 6+ decades of my life. One of these is the Raggedy Ann made for me and my sister by our loving and skilled seamstress mother in the early 1950's. Yes, there was also a Raggedy Andy but none of us know what happened to him.…
